Riyadh Air to Launch Daily Mumbai-Riyadh Flights on Aug. 4, Expanding Saudi-India Connectivity
The launch follows Riyadh Air’s entry into the European market with a London service that began on Jun. 10, and subsequent routes to Dubai, Cairo, Madrid and Manchester. The Mumbai‑Riyadh link is intended to serve both business and leisure travellers, offering onward connections to Europe and the Middle East.
Riyadh Air, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), has positioned itself as a premium carrier. According to the airline’s statement, the new route will feature four cabin classes and modern in‑flight entertainment. The company says the service aligns with its Vision 2030 goal of expanding the country’s non‑oil economy.
The airline’s fleet includes 39 Boeing 787‑9 Dreamliners, 25 Airbus A350‑1000s and 60 Airbus A321neos, with options for further expansion. The 787‑9s operate on long‑haul routes such as Riyadh‑London and will now serve the 4,500‑mile Mumbai‑Riyadh corridor.
India is a key market for Saudi tourism. Tourism ministry data show that 3.4 million Indians travelled to Saudi Arabia in calendar year 2025. Currently, there are about 30 daily round‑trip flights between the two countries, with Jeddah receiving the highest traffic at 42 daily flights. IndiGo dominates the India‑Saudi market, followed by Air India Express and Saudia.
The new Riyadh‑Mumbai service is expected to increase passenger options and potentially stimulate further travel between the two nations. The airline’s CEO, Tony Douglas, noted that India is one of the fastest‑growing aviation markets worldwide.
Riyadh Air’s launch into India also coincides with Saudi Arabia’s broader tourism push. The government has simplified visa procedures for Indian tourists, establishing 11 Tasheer centres across India to facilitate electronic visa applications.
The airline’s partnership network includes SkyTeam members Delta Air Lines, China Eastern Airlines, Saudia, Air France‑KLM and Virgin Atlantic, as well as Star Alliance members Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Air China, Air India and EgyptAir.
The Boeing 787‑9 Dreamliner, the aircraft used on the new route, has a range of 7,565 nmi and can seat up to 296 passengers. Riyadh Air’s fleet is maintained by Lufthansa Technik, a global maintenance provider.
The launch of the Mumbai‑Riyadh service is a tangible step toward Riyadh Air’s objective of becoming a global carrier. The airline’s expansion into India is part of a broader strategy to diversify Saudi Arabia’s economy under Vision 2030, which aims to reduce dependence on oil and create new employment opportunities.
At present, Riyadh Air has not released financial results for the quarter that includes the new service. The airline’s next earnings report is expected in the first quarter of 2027, when it will likely discuss the performance of its new routes.
The Mumbai‑Riyadh launch is scheduled for Aug. 4, 2026, with daily flights operating from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. Passengers will be able to book tickets through the airline’s website and partner travel agencies.
The service’s introduction is expected to enhance connectivity for Indian travellers seeking access to Saudi Arabia’s growing tourism and business sectors, while also providing Riyadh Air with a new revenue stream and a foothold in the competitive India‑Middle East market.
The airline’s expansion into India is part of a broader effort to increase passenger traffic between the two countries and to support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification plan. The upcoming earnings report will likely provide further insight into the financial impact of the new route.
