TransNusa Launches Direct Flights Between Bali and Phuket, Expanding Indonesias International Hub
The new service, identified as flight 8B 541 on the outbound leg and 8B 542 on the return, departs I Gusti Ngurah International Airport in Denpasar at 08:50 and lands at Phuket International Airport at 11:50. The return flight leaves Phuket at 13:50 and arrives back in Bali at 18:50. The route is offered four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
TransNusa will employ an Airbus A320 configured with 174 seats. Tickets, which went on sale on 3 July, start at USD 167.60 and can be purchased directly from the airline’s website or through major online travel agencies.
The launch fits into TransNusa’s broader plan to cement Bali as an international hub. CEO Datuk Bernard Francis said the new route adds a fourth international scheduled flight from Bali, after existing services to Perth, Singapore and Guangzhou, and will support tourism, trade and cultural exchanges between Indonesia and Thailand.
The airline’s rapid expansion into Southeast Asia has been marked by several milestones. Headquartered in Jakarta, TransNusa relaunched in 2022 after a brief pause during the COVID‑19 pandemic. In 2024 it rebranded as a Premium Service Carrier, a model it claims is the first of its kind in the Asia‑Pacific region. The carrier has already operated flights to Singapore, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Perth, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Bangkok.
The Bali‑Phuket service follows a recent announcement that TransNusa will begin a scheduled flight from Jakarta to Bangkok on 6 August. The airline has already added two new international routes in the second half of 2026.
Passengers can choose from three fare classes on the new flight. The basic SEAT package includes a 20‑kg checked‑in allowance in addition to the 7‑kg hand‑carry limit. The SEAT‑PLUS and FLEXI‑PRO bundles offer larger baggage limits, free seat selection, complimentary food and drinks, priority boarding and, for FLEXI‑PRO, unrestricted flight‑date changes and refunds.
Bali remains Indonesia’s main tourist destination, with 80 % of the province’s economy linked to tourism. Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, has also seen a surge in international visitors, recording record daily flight and passenger numbers in 2026.
The new route is expected to attract holidaymakers, families, digital nomads and adventure seekers interested in the distinct cultures and attractions of both islands, while also facilitating business travel and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
TransNusa’s website lists the flight as part of its broader network, which includes domestic routes within Indonesia and other international destinations. The airline’s AOC was granted in September 2022, and it began operating its first three A320 flights in October and December of that year.
As of now, tickets for the Bali‑Phuket service are available for purchase, and the airline has confirmed that the route will operate four times weekly until at least the end of 2026. TransNusa has indicated that additional international and domestic routes may be added before the year’s close.
The launch underscores Indonesia’s growing role in regional aviation and reflects the country’s continued investment in tourism infrastructure. The airline’s expansion into Thailand aligns with broader efforts by both governments to promote cross‑border travel and economic cooperation.
The new service will be monitored by aviation regulators in both Indonesia and Thailand, and TransNusa will maintain its standard safety and service protocols as it expands its international footprint.
